My name is Matt Hathaway. I grew up in Lorane orchards, attended Lorane Elementary as a student, and graduated from Exeter High School in 2000. My family still lives in Exeter, and my thirteen siblings are also Eagles. They have either graduated from Exeter or still attend our schools. I began my career teaching at Jacksonwald in 2004, moved to Owatin Creek in 2011 when the building opened, and then returned to Jacksonwald as principal a couple of years ago. 

Jacksonwald is a warm and welcoming place to learn and grow. Passionate and caring professionals dedicate their lives inside and outside of school to ensure that all children in our care develop emotionally, socially, and academically. Our community balances long-standing school traditions with the most current instructional practices. Most importantly, Jacksonwald views children through a very human lens and understands each child carries different strengths and challenges through the front doors each day. 

I’m a proud father of three little girls. Having my oldest child attend kindergarten has undoubtedly shifted my perspective on the role of schools, the influence and challenges of parenting, the impact of great teachers, and the priority of early literacy. Our professional community is filled with staff that bring decades of teaching, parenting, and life experiences that they use to relate to children.
